Today’s post is a bit of a hodgepodge, but I’ve got lots of great news to share!

Wow! Our fabulous editor, Rachel Kramer Bussel, did an amazing job getting this book out into the world and in people’s hands, and it clearly paid off! I couldn’t be more delighted to be part of this book. I also finally finished reading the entire anthology and can confirm that every story was a treat. Haven’t picked it up yet? Things got even more exciting when Ms. Bussel announced that Rose Caraway of The Kiss Me Quicks would be narrating The Big Book of Orgasms! No word on a release date just yet, but I’m a big fan of Ms. Caraway’s podcasts. She did a fantastic two-hour year-end show called “Halo Sex,” which included multiple sexy stories narrated to NIN’s music—you should check it out if you haven’t heard it yet! It was hot!

But wait, there’s more! Best Women’s Erotica 2014 ended up in audio form as well! It is narrated by Lucy Malone and is apparently a fabulous audio version. Would you like to hear all of these sexy stories in audio form? You can find the anthology on iTunes and Audible. Hurray! Now, I have fun news specifically related to this blog: I will be hosting a very exciting guest in two weeks! Your breath will catch. Your toes will curl. You’ll be out of your mind with the deliciousness of it all! But until then…I’m going to zip my lips like the giant tease I am. Stay close for that one!

Lastly, I’m happy to report some personal news—I’ve been hard at work on my first erotica novel. *Squee!* After penning a couple dozen shorts (and as mentioned in my previous post, a couple non-erotica novels), I decided it was high time to take on the ultimate marathon novel. Thanks to a little holiday free-time and my somewhat insane tendencies toward hyper-focused dedication (did I put on pants today?), I’m about three-quarters of the way through. I was going to get one of those nifty counter thingies to put over on my sidebar because they tickle me, but by the time I remembered, I was already at 58k. Uh, whoops. Next book. 😉

Anyway, this is quite thrilling (at least, for me). I set some steep 2014 goals for myself and I’m ready to tackle them all! Stay tuned for more news on the novel as I progress on through…

Excerpt of “Toys”:

Jennifer thought her toy collection was a little excessive, but she couldn’t help herself.

She’d amassed a bounty of equipment: dildos, vibrators, cuffs, whips, plugs, beads, and various other oddities—like the specialty pair of vibrating electric nipple clamps she’d stumbled upon on her last vacation out of the country—and all of them had added to her secretly adored stash. The dildos came in numerous shapes and sizes, ranging from the foot long Black Rock to the tiny purple Tipper. And the vibrators—well, Jennifer took great pride in those, each of them appropriate in different scenarios, depending on the strength of the vibe she needed.

Originally, her stash fit under some panties in a special closet drawer. Soon, though, it grew, because it seemed the longer she’d been away from sex, the hungrier she got for more toys. Buying them kept her warm and aching for more, and her collection now filled a small moving box in the back of her closet.

A four by four foot one, to be precise.

So, when Daniel rolled off Jennifer after their twelfth fuck—and she, again, hadn’t come—she cast a frustrated glance at her closet while she worried that maybe she’d ruined herself with the toys.

“Did you?” Daniel panted, resting one hand on her stomach and the other on his withered shaft. He peered at her with a hopeful grin, and Jennifer felt a new burn of color washing aside the flush she’d earned from hours of fucking her new boyfriend.

“Well,” she said, “not exactly.”

“Damn.” Daniel wedged himself against her. He was everything she sought in a bed buddy: his scent was pleasant, his eyes were warm, and his swimmer’s body made her panties wet the second she’d noticed the hip bones showing over his trunks. He was so delightful she mentally kicked herself for the hours of howling orgasms she couldn’t seem to have.

“Yeah. Kind of weird,” she muttered. Jennifer pressed her lips on his—damn, he could kiss—but her body throbbed with hornier aspirations.

“Tell me what to do.” Daniel slipped his arm beneath her so he could wrap her in a hug, then grazed her neck with his lips. “I want you to be having as much fun as I am—”

Every once in a while, I like to turn a secret around in my head for a bit. It’s extremely rare since I’m more of the scream-from-the-rooftops variety, but on these occasions, I find myself extra enthusiastic when it’s finally time to share.

Today is that day.

I’ve been keeping pretty quiet about this one because it simply didn’t feel real, but I’m now [really fucking excited and] ready to share.

Excerpt from “Office Santa”:

Me and Office Santa—we go way back.

See, after seven years of organizing our annual holiday party, I’ve learned I have a real affinity for a gentleman in a Santa costume—which is saying a lot, since I love a man in a suit and tie, and the male partners around here look so delicious in their business wear it’s a miracle we don’t have a major sexual harassment problem. But Christ, put one of them in a fuzzy red suit with a squishy belly, a big black belt, matching boots, and that goddamn aphrodisiac of a hat, and I lose all semblance of self-control.

Part of the appeal is the man who dons the suit, of course. Last year, for example, it was David. He’s one of the busiest partners, so watching him slow down to have a glass of wine with the rest of us—appreciating the season and wearing that fantastic red costume—actually made him approachable. I mean, he was always that way with me, but no one ever saw that. Ours was an affair composed of exactly three entanglements: the first on the break room table after the rest of the company had gone home, the second when I picked him up from the airport after a conference since the driver I’d arranged had neglected to show, and the third the time I took him home from the holiday party. He’d spent the night tumbling around my apartment—he was a little awkward with the suit dangling around his thighs because I wouldn’t let him take it off. In return, I kept the sexy Mrs. Claus dress on and let him rip a hole in the crotch of my fishnets so he could get his hands on me. There’s something to be said for a man wearing a Santa hat while under your skirt, shoving his tongue way up inside until you come to visions of sugarplums and all that, so it was a win-win for us both…

That One Costume…

It’s Halloween week—time for everyone to get excited about sugar, parties, and costumes! I’ve always enjoyed Halloween, half because I love the candy and the other half because I enjoy a good costume. In a former life I loved to make my own; sometimes they were silly, sometimes they were cute, and other times, they were incredibly over the top. While I do enjoy having a closet full of costumes, I’m not so much into the dressing up part these days. The good news is that I still enjoy checking out the fantastic costumes other people wear, especially when they’re homemade or unusual.

Speaking of unusual—how about a Santa costume at Halloween?

[Screeching record sound here.]

Well, as you may know, Foreword Literary is set to release Holiday Spice early next month. My story, “Office Santa,” is included in the anthology—and it happens to be inspired by a photo I once saw of a woman dressed up as Mrs. Claus for Halloween! The costume was a sassy little number…and that’s how “Office Santa” ended up narrated by a gal named Kristi, an adored member of her office team who really loves a man in a Santa suit.

Smut of the Season, Smut of the Moment

As far as I’m concerned, every season is a good one for smut. However, the holidays, they are a-comin’ (pun intended)—so it’s not a bad time to start thinking about all the good reads you might want to gift yourself or a special someone this wintery season.

That said, I’d love to share exciting news—Foreword Literary releases Holiday Spice in early November, and my story “Office Santa” is included in the anthology!

Contracts and edits are in the works, but I will be posting an excerpt of “Office Santa” very soon. I had far too much fun writing this one, so I hope you’ll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

I have more thrilling news about another anthology to share beyond this, too, but for now I’m going to play the tease and leave the rest of the present unwrapping for later! 😉

In the meantime, I’d like to talk about the “Smut of the Moment” for those who are interested—or, in other words, what I’m up to and the sultry books I’m reading.

Smut of the Moment: What I’m Writing

I only recently launched this site, so I figured this post I’d share some of my behind-the-scenes endeavors. Currently, I’m wrapping up three little things before I dig my heels in for a big thing:

  • Little items 1 & 2: Alison Tyler has another enticing BDSM submission call out, and naturally I cannot resist. Her submission calls have literally become my kryptonite (or perhaps I should say crack) since I can’t ever write just one piece. This time, I’ve settled on two—a BDSM threesome and a D/S twosome. Both are in the editing stages and will be submitted shortly. Cross your fingers for me!
  • Little item 3: I have a side project I put in a drawer six months ago. It’s been banging around making a lot of noise for me to finish it while I’ve been busy churning out short stories, so I’ve decided to give it a final edit and send it out into the world. That way, I can move along to…
  • The BIGGIE: I think I’m ready to write my first erotica novel, folks. Really. It’s time. I have all sorts of plans and have been jotting down notes between shorts over the last few months, and with the timing of projects 1-3 above, I suspect I’ll be ready to start mid-to-late November. I’ll probably miss NaNo, but my early Christmas present to myself is to get the table cleared for this novel. I’m excited!

Smut of the Moment: What I’m Reading

This is where I introduce you to the squealing fangirl inside me. If you follow me on Twitter, you may have already picked up on my general state of enthusiasm—it’s on high most of the time—but get me talking about some of the amazing smut-writers I read and I start bouncing around with a borderline hyena grin as I encourage you to read them, too!

  • I just finished Bared to You by Sylvia Day last night. I didn’t think I’d be into it at first, but it ended up being delicious. I bought the sequel today and will be starting it soon.
  • I’ve been reading and will continue to read The Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica 11, edited by Maxim Jakubowski. This collection is more literary, and so far I’ve been mesmerized by every piece. I liked the style so much, in fact, I submitted a couple shorts for Mr. Jakubowski’s recent call…no telling if my overseas mailing made it by the deadline, but I found a new twist to my writing and that’s inspiring for me. “What are You Wearing?” by Matt Thorne, “I Waited for You by the River of Time” by Remittance Girl, “Her First Thursday Evening” by M. Christian, and “The Amazing Marvella” by Elsie McGraw are favorites so far.
  • Butterfly by Kathryn Harvey (Barbara Wood) is in my hand right this second, taunting me. I’m playing a game of eeny-meeny-miny-moe here, because I’m also staring at my Kindle and debating between this and some smaller works:
    • Those Girls, a novelette by one of my erotica-writing heroes, Alison Tyler,
    • Shameless Behavior, an anthology of erotic stories on overcoming shame from Go Deeper Press,
    • Ask No Questions, a novella by Justine Elyot, whose shorts I’ve read so far are sexy as hell,
    • And of course, all 69 stories in my author’s copy of The Big Book of Orgasms: 69 Sexy Stories, since that will arrive in the mail any day now (*squeals!*).

This is just the short list of a bigger list that is actually an entire bookcase, but you get the picture.

On that note, time to hunker down and tackle more smut—be it my writing or reading someone else’s.

Katie had bought the damn flogger thirteen years ago, in the final throes of a souring relationship. She’d thought she’d have plenty of opportunities to use the suede leather contraption. Instead, the thing had ended up in the closet, only used as a dust collector.

Then she met Julian. He was as proper as they came. His suit jackets were always pressed and his ties neatly tucked; he got his hair cut every three weeks; he meticulously folded his papers after he read them. Brilliant, handsome and patient, he never faulted her for her ways. Instead he picked up after her and the chaos that was her collection of art supplies, her endless piles of clothes and even her oft-wild hair—which is why she froze when she found him standing in their living room, holding the flogger perpendicular to his hips, as if measuring it against his semi-erect, naked penis.

“You never told me about this.” Julian waved the flogger around, and it almost looked as if his shaft hardened.

She had to be imagining this.

“I did…once.” It was five years ago, when they’d just started telling each other their fantasies—long before they’d moved in together. She’d hidden it in the back of the closet since she’d never imagined it as Julian’s sort of thing.

His brow furrowed as he swung it, the tassels tapping his thighs.

“Hmm,” he said, reasoning. “Well, I suppose you should come here. And take off your clothes.”
